Holiday preparations: Episode 97
Mrs Nick has just materialised and has announced that she is "going to get some French curreny".
Me: OK
Her: How much should I get?
Me: Just a few quid, I can use my card and get more cash out if we need it
Her: No, I think we should take £300
Me: If you say so
Her: Or do you think £400?
Me: We can get more out of the bank while we are there if we need it
Her: So say £350?
Me: Whatever you think
Her: £400 then
Me: If you wish
Her: Or I could get just 300
and so on for ever........

Tell her to shut up. You will pay less at a French cashpoint than any high street bank or the post office. No commission, no fees.
Bet she keeps her Euros in a special wallet as well. And then you will have the examining every note every time she buys something and checking and rechecking her change with comments of "how much is that in English money?" repeated every forty five seconds for the next two weeks.
OOO. That's cheap. Costs twice that at home
Ooo. That's expensive. Aldi have them for a quid
OOOO. How much is that in English money?
How many Euros have we got left? How much is that in English money?

the difference between a welfare state and a totalitarian state is a matter of time.
She is now in a flap about E111 forms. She has actually persuaded the local postmistress to keep the village post office open longer so that she can get them stamped. I pointed out we could easily do this in London on Monday morning.
Pointless.
And she does have a special wallet!
And now she has come back in a flap cos she has filled the forms in in blue ink, which is verboten, and we have to do the bastards all over again!!

I remember a conversation I once had with an ex before I realised thet the lights were on but Mr brain had long since departed which was along the lines of if the french have francs and the germans have marks and believing me when I said the italians had raphaels did all countries name their currency on famous citizens...

Do I believe in God? If by god you mean a set of immutable laws governing the universe then yes, but I dont think I'd get much emotional satisfaction praying to the law of gravity.
