Judging from posts here there are some paid employments that just make us angry. Here's your chance to see which are the most hated. You get THREE votes in this poll and you can use one of them for a write in profession.

PS Please don't write in "Moderators". You'll get a chance on that next week when we do (unpaid) pastimes to despise (train spotting, stamp collecting and the like).

PSS It's not a crime to actually like some of these professions. I certainly do.

A good post

But no way is an NHS receptionist a "profession"

I detest politicians, Lawyers, the Police, Civil servants, journalists (dead tree version) and teachers.

The rest are just lackeys of the above.

Basically, anybody who tells me how to live the one life I have, and insists under pain of law that I MUST do it their way...is a complete and utter carrot.

(Yup, I'm on a Libertarian kick at the moment. www.lpuk.org) **** EVERYONE

Seconded. Complete W@nkrs the lot of them. The last refuge for the otherwise unemployable.

Why could I not cast my three votes for politicians, particularly the vile self serving ZaNuLab ones?

Recruitment consultants.

Parasitic leeching scumbags who make your average estate agent look like a virtuous paragon of morality in comparison.

I'll offer 30% of your salary to anyone who can provide me with the head of a recruitment consultant on a plate.

Just why are estate agents so demonised? OK, one of our local ones could double as a cork-screw and one of the others is about as much use as tits on a boar hog but the rest are just people providing a service.

Oh, and one in Cornwall, where we were seling MIL's house, was apparently acting on behalf of the buyer even though we were paying her.

As an aside, I must admit that I prefer the Scottish system where, once a price has been agreed, that's it, there's no going back by either party.

Numerous professions from that list annoy me.

Traffic Wardens - Get bonuses for more cars they book, so these days they book cars legally parked too. They’ll look out for any minor excuse to book anyone and they’re completely unapproachable.

Teachers - What can we say about these lot? They demand more pay for their decreasing standards (especially in the basic three ‘R’s from my experience) and expect less work thrown into the bargain too.

Civil Servants - My third choice. They don’t appear to serve any real purpose to the rest of us from what I see, get huge pensions, golden handshakes and truly scandalous salaries. Where do I sign up?

Politicians - A very, very close second place finish for me. Just like civil servants but on a larger scale, plus lies thrown into the bargain. Most can’t see beyond their own noses and have cloth ears.

NHS Receptionists - Just missed out on my third vote. They’re not bothered about serving you, just playing around on their computer and telling you they’ll be “with you in a minute”. Ask for a first thing or last thing appointment (a holy Grail in itself these days) as you are also employed like themselves and have commitments of your own, and they look at you with total and utter surprise... Regardless of this, you are still given times of 11:30am or 1:30pm...

Health & Safety Managers - My own personal number one choice. I despise them or indeed almost anything to do with the HSE. They live on an alternate universe to the rest.of us and appear to assume simple accidents are something which happen on purpose. They expect near impossible targets and don’t even start me on the needless bureaucracy tangled up within them. They are the cancer of the surviving and struggling manufacturing industry in this country. Removing them would free up a considerable amount of time and save a great deal of money too.

Financial advisers, especially those I ever employed!

I honestly can't see how traffic warden is classed as a profession.

Bum, totally missed this poll. Would have liked to have a go at HR.

Thanks for keeping bean counters and council workers out of the reckoning - almost :)
