Re: I didn't know that!

If the anti abortion movement is all about the babies when are they pushing for socialised ante and post natal care to ensure even babies from poor families get a good start? No one would pay a cent to give birth. Some places actually charge for skin on skin contact between new babies and their moth...

Re: Price of petrol

My biggest bugbear is fuel duty. That gets applied to the basic cost of the fuel then VAT is applied to the sum total which means we are being taxed on a tax!

They only want more kids to be born so they can grow up a bit, go to school and get slaughtered by random gunmen.

Re: I didn't know that!

I did not know that. 303 bullets had lead on the outside. All the ones that I fired were jacketed. That is something I cannot explain. The rounds used in the Lee Enfield were indeed jacketed and had been from 1895 to 1957. Perhaps the slugs that I recovered from the sand of the firing range at the ...

Little barstewards stole a whole 4 foot tall bronze statue from outside the Tidworth British Legion in 2011 just prior to Remembrance Day. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2054006/Thieves-bronze-statue-WWII-soldier-garrison-towns-war-memorial.html This was the only War Memorial in Tidworth a...

Re: What deterrent?

The cost to the taxpayer is enormous. At least £500k in operating costs for the flight and additional costs into the millions for the individual law court rulings and challenges for each individual case and the three class action cases that have so far been brought. Also the costs of Border Force, d...

old git wrote: Wed Jun 08, 2022 4:33 pm Incidentally did you know that the Romans sweetened food with lead?

I know lead has a sweet taste because when I was a child I remember putting a 303 bullet in my mouth.

It's not something I would do now! :bom:

Re: The Honourable Member for the 18th century.

But you don't vote for PM at a GE, you vote for your constituent MP. <snipped> I know you don't vote for a PM at a GE... BUT.... you vote for a party with a leader who may become PM. If the Labour Party, for example, had NOT had Jeremy Corblimey as leader they could have fared much better than they...

General Ronaldus led Legio II (MacDonaldii) as the first into Camulodunum and secured the Hambugrlaris for their first campsite.

I agree with your comments about crossing the floor but if a governing party is prohibited from changing its leader mid-parliament then the same restriction would have to apply to all partys.

Re: Chilli with everything

The pungency of chillies is quantified using the Scoville scale which assesses the level of capsaisin the compound responsible for the heat aka ring sting. The scale runs from 0 to 2 million upwards – Jalapeno is a relatively mild 4000 whilst Scotch Bonnet is over 100,000. Police pepper spray can b...

Chilli with everything

Chilli in everything. Look at any restaurant menu nowadays and it is hard to find dishes that don't have it in. I'm OK but the Mehm'Sahib reacts badly to it. An evening out for a meal is very difficult sometimes. Indian, Nepalese, and Chinese are right out. Italian depends on whether it's an indepen...

DieselGate

First it was spurious accidents and claiming for non-existent whiplash, then came PPI with its exhortations to get cash back from your bank and give them half in the process, and now comes the new ambulance-chasing lawyers to get money out of you - Diesel cars that had been fitted with emissions-che...
