Re: Rwanda

I can't help wondering why, instead of shelling out umpteen millions to prop up an unworkable policy (Rwanda) and paying billions every year on hotel accommodation for migrants, they haven't spent the money on processing when they turn up here unannounced. There is a huge back log because they take ...

Re: Rwanda

Looks like Cleverly was there today, presumably with another bung for Kagame. Of course, the Elephant in the room is the question of race. Anyone daring to raise such an issue is automatically dubbed as a racist. I think we should at least be able to acknowledge that people in different parts of th...

I would also clarify that whilst hindmistress and I do not holiday in Greece we have spent the night in Athens.
Just out of curiosity I looked up Athens on Google Earth. It confirms everything we have been saying.

Re: Elgin Marbles / Parthenon Statues

I have visited Athens including the Acropolis a couple of times in recent years and agree with your comments - in fact I would say you’re being rather kind about the place ! The nearest I have come to the Acropolis is seeing the infamous marbles at the British Museum...and that was many years ago. ...

Re: Elgin Marbles / Parthenon Statues

Interesting mix of views - but now that the Parthenon is being essentially rebuilt along with the rest of the ancient acropolis is there not a case to return them ? If the sculptures could be safely reinstated on a restored Parthenon (from where they were originally removed) then I would say yes. H...

Re: Elgin Marbles / Parthenon Statues

I take the opposite view. In my opinion, Lord Elgin has been terribly mis represented. If he had not rescued the sculptures when he did they would have been lost. By the time of Elgin's arrival the Parthenon was in a parlous state; a mere ruin being used to house a military garrison, where soldiers ...

It's been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator unfortunately

Thought so. :(

Re: Paint

I remember when the best paint was made by I.C.I. in Slough. You had to admire their attention to detail and highest standards. We were good at all kinds of things back then. What ever happened to Great Britain?

Paint

My grump for the day is finding that 'Dulux' white gloss paint has changed...and not for the better. It seems to have lost the self levelling - or equalising - property which it always used to have. I read on the side of the container that best results are to be had with a synthetic brush. I eventua...

Re: Reshuffle

A shift towards Reform would never be enough to do anything but give Captain Sensible an even bigger lead in the polls than he already has. Do we really want another Labour Government?

Re: Reshuffle

Perhaps he would be better advised changing his Taylor rather than his Cabinet.?

This reshuffle is a pointless exercise and about as useful as rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Re: Reshuffle

Is Sunak getting smaller? Every time I see him he seems to have shrunk a bit more.

Perhaps he will eventually disappear altogether?
