I occasionally get a problem with a build up of ear wax. In the past i would apply ear drops or olive oil for 10-14 days then go to the surgery and the nurse would syringe the offending ear and the wax would come out.

I have the same problem now but when I rang the surgery to make an appointment I was told that they no longer offer this service. Instead I could buy something called a micro-suction kit from the chemist and do it myself or alternatively there was a guy who came to the surgery once a fortnight who would syringe the ear for me but I'd have to pay.

A bit of research online seemed to suggest that this was the norm nowadays. A bit more research indicated that the cost was around £45 per earhole.

So I'm thinking of a cheap home remedy. Use the ear drops or olive oil for a while, fill an empty washing up liquid bottle with warm water, stand in the shower to avoid too much mess and squirt the wax out.

My question is has anyone tried this? i'd be interested to hear from anyone else who's had the same problem and how they dealt with it.
