Well, all I can say after Not Happy and Sour Puss's very excellent posts is ''how very eloquently put''.
I also see GOM as my main home as it were, and I am also a member of a couple of forums both here in the UK and the USA.

I like this forum very much and since joining, find that I have made some very good friends and friends that I hope I shall meet one day soon.
I do not think GOM has gone to seed yet, but I do think that the recent decision to ''up the ante'' as it were will be very much to it's benefit.

There is a case for discussion and arguement in posting and I would like to think we would feel comfortable participating in both, also I think it can be determined that I am not averse to using the odd swear word  (sorry to those it offends), but I have never been told to ''cool it'' by anyone and believe that sometimes it can add to the intensity of the point you are trying to get across or indeed add to the humour of a post.

To those who would disagree with that I would say, each to their own and piss off!

I firmly believe that there is room for serious discussion and for lighter humour here, and I must admit I do enjoy being a pain in the arse and making stupid, innuendo fuelled answers to posts. Thats me...

The mods will have the authority to bring things back to base?...yes?... and I for one would not be wilting in tears if they subjected me to some criticism for being out of line or for not keeping on topic in some of the more serious discussions. All I can say is that I will try harder as time is also a factor for me.

As for Kim, I did enjoy her posts and found some of them very enlightening and amusing and would very much like to see her back. Her pics?....it is entirely up to her whether she posts these or not. I have no objection.

Like Sour puss, I await the wrath of others but this is my opinion and i am entitled to it.

By the way Sour puss, hope you are feeling better soon :D
Hot toddy...cannae whack it!

Thanks I did, just to be on the safe side I had 3, and I am feeling a bit better, although it is still not quite right, I will just have to take another few tonight to see if that helps. First time I have had this problem in years, must have been the air or water in Nottingham, cannot have been the Guinness, could have been the curry, NFN, I guess.

Thanks for the good wishes Boo. Gosh, golly will that gets us thrown off for being all chummy and familiar:?: Kripes, hope not

Thread off to the "suggestions" area once everyone has had a chance to see it (in case anyone has become a fan).

Why bother with an intelligent rational discussion involving possible future changes to the the board when we have posts of this calibre.
I give up, I really do :(

I get the impression from this thread that unless you have a poker shoved up your @rse and are spitting venomous nails, then you are not welcome.
Well stuff that! I don't come here to argue or to agree for that matter. I come here for a bit of escapism. I get a bit of pleasure out of reading posts by people who raise topics we are all familiar with. Most are tackled with tongue firmly planted in cheek and an attempt to raise a smile.
Whats so wrong with that, why should that be relegated to OT. New blood is one thing, agree fully on that point. But don't fix what ain't broke!

If I just want to see anger, depression or arguements, I'll watch the news.

Well I for one like Berek's gritty input to some of the mindless threads that spawn on here. It adds a bit of realism when the "me too" one liner gang start.

I have been a member long enough to remember the utter pointless twaddle between you and another member about who had the rights to the name of Not Happy. Even to the point of changing your name to the same but in German.

People in glass houses........

Nope - just trying to move some of the chatter to a different area so that the serious topics don't get lost in the noise, as they have been lately.

There seems to be a strange perception that one's posts being moved OT is in some way undesirable - I don't see this, it's simply a different area of the forum.

Any attempts at humour will of course still be encouraged but if serious threads start wandering too much, the conversation can be moved and continue elsewhere and thus we keep everyone (within spitting distance of) happy.

I tend to agree with Hadock, I for one might not bother posting if things get too serious on here, it's not everyday you come on feeling like you want to rant, some days there's not that much to get screeming about.
If I had to search all areas to find something I had started I would give up and not bother.

I do not post on other forums, I found this one and liked the way it was going, it's only since the entry fee was put in place that we have no new blood, I for one would not want to pay to join, why would anyone else want to pay. This forum is fun most of the time with a lot interesting rants and a few lighter moments thrown in too, it ain't broke don't try to mend it.

The only area I would comedown hard on is the stupid bickering we had a while back, that's just boring and pointless.

The bickering should be allowed, just moved off topic quickly. Problems arose when Kim posted numerous anti-GC threads on the main GOTM page thus making it hard to find serious stuff. As for the JQ debacle, topics should just be locked, or once again moved, if they get too abusive. Banning people seems hypocritical unless they REALLY step over the line and break GOM rules.

This site is so organic and that is why it works. Towards the start of the week, things are relatively serious, world changing issues being discussed, it gets to Wednesday and people start to need some mid-week entertainment to get them through the day and by Friday it's porn and bumfights central. The great thing is we can pick and choose what kind of stuff we want to read.

The main things I object to are thread repetition and posting stuff in the wrong area. Other than that, things do work. I appreciate that some people have moved on as they tire of the way things are going, but that is up to them.

The joining fee shouldn't be there unless absolutely necessary as any undesirables will make themselves known sooner rather than later and banished accordingly via a smart put down about their sartorial elegance or lack thereof.

To summarise: there is room for serious debate and fun and frivolity as long as people show a little restraint so it doesn't get too silly!

Yeah! You are right! - All of you!

That is the problem. There are times when I want a serious deep down examination of a subject and get rattled by irritating prattle chucked in by bystanders who just seem to keep missing the point.

Then on another day, I’ll want to BE one of the bystanders saying ‘Hey Lighten up for chissake, it’s not the end of the world’.

I would then suppose that it simply depends on what mood I am in at the time. And you can't moderate that.

So it seems to me that really anything goes as a topic unless it completely loses its focus and wanders off without regaining its point or descends into personal slanging matches.

If a thread has lost its original focus and is no longer attracting on-topic posts then it can be fairly said to be dead, and possibly locked or moved or re defined according to whether it has retained any point at all or simply dropped into the realm of one-liners and died a natural death.

Descending into personal arguments, well that is a different matter, after a ‘Please cool it’ interjection it should be locked down before it gets out of control.

The heat of the moment arguments are the worst of all, everyone, given sufficient time and space would be likely to admit that they probably should not have said some of the things that they did, and probably regret what they did say in the heat of the moment. I certainly have! In hindsight, my cause would have been better served it someone had made me 'Shut it' even if only for a time until I calmed down and thought it through as I should have to begin with.

So there is certainly a case for locking, or moving threads, but deletion should only accompany banning because censorship is a deeply personal thing that always means so many different things to so many people as to defy agreement about reasonable actions and would just make matters worse.

All in all, the principle of everything within reason is good; maybe we just need a little help with the 'within reason' bit.
