The same applied to my Primary school too. Strangely, at girl meeting age one was expected to find a "nice" one to go out with and none of us had a clue as to which ones would pass muster. The consequences of introducing a "wrong'un" to the Velocette household left me adolescently confused as to the true meaning of "nice".

NO, NO, NO - if it belonged to a pedant (singular) it would be Pedant's Forum. If it belonged to the pedants (plural and also implied by your post) it would have to be Pedants' Forum.

Bottom of the class boy.

Anyway. It's clear that the forum belongs to pedants, therefore the possessive must prevail :D

No, no, no, no, no. It is a forum for pedants, therefore it is titled quite apropriately "Pedants Forum" If it weren't, it wouldn't be, but it is, so it is. :P
To clarify, if it were a classic car forum it would be titled "Classic Cars Forum" It would not belong to the cars now would it?

“It’s nice to be nice” alleged that nice man o the emerald isle. “‘tis nice to be nice to be sure” I acknowledged. But oh no it didn’t end there: “It’s nice to be nice to be nice” I hear the theory which stands up in The Theory of Everything.

Incorrect capitalisation of "it".

Couldn't we solve this little dilemma by just renaming it 'Pedantics Forum', i.e. a forum about pedantics, that being the art of nit-picking or, to put it another way, being either pedantic or punctilious?

...or 'Pedantry Forum', being a forum for - well - pedantry?

You missed the capitalised "If."

He also spelt 'apropriately' wrong.

No, full stop omitted.
Here's the offending punctuation. (.)
Pedant.

The fact remains that it is a forum for pedants and does not belong to said pedants. Therefore "Pedants Forum" is correct.

Luddite, if this was called pedant's bike, or pedant's taxi, I suspect there would be little or no disagreement.

Why then such a kerfuffle over pedant's forum? It is presumably to be used exclusively by pedants so, as you are no doubt aware of the law of adverse possession, this means that the forum is in fact owned by pedants.

It is indeed a pedant's forum.

Why does the parrot sketch from Monty Python keep springing to mind?

The Pedants Forum is a place and IMHO the likes of Potters Bar and Speakers Corner set the precedent that place names do not have apostrophes. It is the zone where pedants are likely to be found.

You appear to contradict yourself.
If the forum is owned by pedants (which is debatable), the correct possessive form would surely be pedants' forum.
Only if it owned by just one pedant could it be pedant's forum

On balance, I think I favour a forum pertaining to pedants - ie pedants forum.

You tell 'im Frumpy, Victor truly is faulty. :D

To sum up this forum is neither owned by Pedants or even one Pedant therefore it is not called Pedants' Forum or Pedant's Forum. It is a forum for Pedants. Q.E.D. :)

Well I'm off to bed.......

And I'm taking MY forum with me.

And I know I started a sentence with 'and'.

And I'm well aware I've done it again.
