Driving standards haven't changed at all Vic, the simple answer is that there are more idiots driving than there were, so now they're closer together.

Road death statistics are quite incredible, fewer people killed on the road now than there were 50 years ago!

May have something to do with the fact that it's almost impossible to drive fast where pedestrians are, so it's harder to score points these days, I'm not sure.

Driving standards certainly have deteriorated. :roll:

The reason that there are less deaths is that cars are far safer to drive than they used to be. Handling and braking is in another league than when you graced these shores El.
That together with speed cameras, much as I hate them they do stop the lunatic in a hot car doing suicidal speeds in built up areas.
I used to be one of those lunatics so I know what I am talking about. :wink:

The figures I'm considering aren't for the 80s, the higher death rates were in the 40s and 50s, when there were very few cars on the road!
