It is hard for me to express just how wrong I think this is...

https://news.yahoo.com/bbc-announces-drama-jimmy-saville-142604685.html

No, doubt it will portray the BBC in a positive light and plead Jimmy was a misunderstood saint with a few demons and how we should leave well alone now that he is dead.

The BBC knew exactly what was going on yet they chose to do NOTHING, not even investigate the 'rumours' at the time and John Lydon was dismissed as a nutcase on a misguided crusade.

There is only one reason Savile remained immune and that was because the BBC and many others allowed it. Will they step forward now and speak up on this whitewash programme, I seriously doubt it.

I always knew the BBC would stoop to any level to try and turn a buck but this is the lowest depth they have plumbed yet.

One must respect the the nerve of the BBC to make the programmes they think fit - after all they have done Adolf Hitler and Margaret Thatcher - so why not Jimmy Savile?

The BBC did not assist Hitler and seeing as she didn't sexually assault children or murder anyone I can only assume you have mentioned Thatcher out of spite.

Had this been an independent programme maker it would not have been so bad but in turning so many blind eyes to Savile's activities the BBC was a major part of the problem. The reluctance to investigate their 'star' directly contributed to the concealment of his crimes and now the BBC seeks to profit from a situation they helped to create. In anyone's book that is wrong.

I personally think it is a good idea to show it, as long as it shows the real story of his crimes, warts and all. The BBC were not the only ones to cover it up, some police forces decided there was not a case to answer despite people coming forward when he was at it. Judge it once you have seen it, that is my point of view.

That's my point. The BBC will present a whitewash and many of the true facts will not come out as they were involved in the perpetration of the crimes, however indirectly. The police had nothing to go on because of the way the BBC protected Savile. The programme should be made by a truly independent producer.

Mel Gibson - after all, he did a top factual job with Braveheart.

The police had nothing to go on because of the way the BBC protected Savile. The police had plenty to go on, it was decided by someone as yet unnamed not to follow it up. Everyone blames the BBC, unless you were there you cannot know what the BBC knew about his criminal perversions. I take with a pinch of salt anything reported by the media, none of them stick to the facts.

The programme should be made by a truly independent producer.
I think this will be an interesting thing to watch made by the same organisation he worked for while perving on their premisses. if they get it wrong then we can all tear them to bits.

It will make interesting viewing - Savile was, afterall, billed as "The pervert's pervert".

Interesting to see if there is a spot for Cliff Richard.

I doubt it, he has never been in the frame for such activites apart from the time the BBC made it their business to invade his privacy after a tip off his home was being raided. He won £210,000 in damages, the person behind the false alligations has never been named. The BBC stll have to pay an as yet unknown amount for his loss of earnings. I do not think anyone should be named unless they are charged. Cliff Richard was never charged.

Please be careful what you post on here everyone. We do not want to liabel anyone. :safe:

I never thought he was guilty of anything and the BBC were trying to deflect. He now has them over a barrel and they deserve it. I suspect they will tread lightly around him and Gambuchinni. Difficult to see how they avoid taking full blame for not nailing him sooner.

Sadly, you were right , Jethro, I did not see the twist that could be put on it.
