Re: Price of petrol
I won't be buying no hybrid car - I'll wait for full electric.
Everyone is telling us to buy hybrid, but it's because they've made too many.
Just like the days when you knew there were CD players but they forced digital tape players on us, because they'd made too many.

Re: Price of petrol
I'm sure there are some new hybrid cars that are so awful they will have trouble finding owners but my wife is one of only a relatively small number of people who have been able to buy a new top spec Lexus NX300 hybrid as they are in such short supply. Horses for courses I suppose but I have to admit the Lexus IS a fabulous machine and - if driven carefully - has very good MPG. Then again if you can afford over £50k for a new car it shouldn't be too onerous to fill it up.!

Re: Price of petrol
Just been informed by my sister in law who lives in Alicante that Spanish fuel is reduced by 20% at the till, subsidised by the Government.
Funny not seen it mentioned in the media.

Re: Price of petrol
It seems a worthwhile time to bring this thread back from the depths, given we're seeing both petrol and diesel spiraling out of control at the moment.
The weekend before last, I saw my first £2 a litre (for diesel) threshold passed - although that was at a motorway services. To little surprise, the forecourt was almost deserted. Since then, I've seen a few more places just about passing it and online, I've seen prices around £2.10-15 per litre.
Fortunately I'm a member of Costco, but as of today I'm still looking at 166.9p per litre for petrol. It was in the high 150p's only towards the end of last week. The week prior to that it was in the lower 150p's... Everything else around my neck of the woods is around the 175.9 - 178.9p per litre for petrol at the moment.
We're running a very real risk of crippling the economy if the government doesn't step in and start cutting not only fuel duty, but also VAT it makes on fuel. The situation is unsustainable already and if anything, forecast to get even worse. People won't be able to afford to go out at the weekend (we stayed in all last weekend, ourselves), courier prices will rise and that'll become noticeable in the shops for basic food and drink as I've already seen.
Andy Pandy concentrating on capping bus fares at two quid isn't going to cut the mustard.

Re: Price of petrol
I know that I am stupid so I am hoping that someone can help me out here .
So.....
When the price of fuel rises from £1.20 to £1.80 in a short time period where, specifically, does that extra 60 n.p.
go ?. Because I am certain as I can be it doesn't disappear down a black hole and never to be seen again .
So, in short, where is it ?, who's got it ? and how can I get my hands on it ?.

That extra cost means extra money for the government coffers. They've no intention on tackling this problem with any seriousness. Token gestures will be the absolute best we'll see.
Besides, there's a few reports coming out suggesting they're considering implementing a so-called 'temporary' 50mph speed limit nationwide to reduce 'fuel consumption during a severe shortage'.
We spent well over a century engineering cars to go faster and safer, only for macroeconomics to drag our actual travel speeds back to the Victorian era. I suppose it's a way to watch us turn completely into a Socialist sh*t show - in slow motion.

Which , of course, will be cancelled out by the ever increasing amounts of gas guzzling 20 mph limits which are popping up everywhereMr Depressed wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 1:02 pm

Re: Price of petrol
Soon after I passed my test in 1975, I remember the 50mph limit due to the fuel crisis - Oh what fun that was! 60mph on the motorway and 50mph on dual carriageway. At the time, the A1 had sections of motorway and the remainder dual carriageway. It was never a case of "Are we there yet?" - It was always "Is this motorway yet?".
Anyway It won't apply to me -I'm electric.

As of Monday, due to diesel shortages. All postman will be working from home. They'll read your mail and will call you if there is anything important! If they don't have your phone number they will drop you a line in a letter.
