The Triple Lock

Post by Mr Depressed »

I think we all knew this one was coming - the proposal to scrap the Triple Lock. Something I personally believe would be a terrible move.

They are very hasty in wanting to take money away from ordinary people - the Triple Lock in this case - but they won't challenge financially damaging green extremism. Thousands of pensioners who rely on the state pension alone have been denied the Warm Home Heating allowance because the state pension is not a benefit. It only becomes a 'benefit' when it suits this government.

Another point worth mentioning here is that the UK state pension is still very low by European standards. If today's youngsters are persuaded to end the Triple Lock, they'll have a state pension worth (next to) nothing when they themselves retire.

From what I can tell from Labour's Party conference, their plan for old people is as follows:

1) Pay them less.
2) Freeze/starve them to death.
3) Euthanise them when they get sick.
4) Take their money through death duties.
5) Seize their house while it's in probate.

If Labour had a choice between Pensioners or benefits, the answer has been obvious over the last couple of years. Labour hate pensioners.

Lastly, it's worthwhile pointing out that retaining the Triple Lock was on Page 79 of the 2024 Labour Manifesto. It's no wonder why people are calling them 'Liebour' these days.

They are scrapping the Triple Lock to fund the new National Care Service - which will mean care for who needs It now, insufficient funds to continue, then higher taxation and poorer pensioners.
Tolerance is a set allowance that ensures a good fit and smooth running. Any more tolerance and things get sloppy or don't work at all.
We live in a very, very tolerant society already.

Pension payments should be RAISED if anything. However I have one proviso on that - to UK pensioners who live in this country, so the money effectively stays here at home. I know some may disagree with me over that one and that's fine...

The state pension is a reward for working and paying NI into the system for many years. Regardless of what certain quarters have suggested recently, it is NOT a benefit, but an investment by the worker in the system, which cannot be collected before pension age.

Of course the system needs tweaking going forward. Even I have to admit that. I certainly wouldn't change it for the people who have paid in to date as that would be criminally unfair, but I would seriously look into changing it for people who are just starting to pay now (i.e - school leavers).
